Our long relationship providing Network Rail with CGI public information videos resulted in another interesting project for the rail network. On this occasion, DW Studio had the privilege of creating an information animation for the £200 million track and signalling scheme taking place in Derby.
The brief was to design an engaging video that detailed the 79 days of activity upgrading the railway, along with the benefits to those living in the area and using Derby station services. The video animation had to inform people of the project scale, the key milestones and resulting train disruptions, whilst giving stakeholders an update on project information.
DW Studio developed a video structure and format that allowed Network Rail's construction work to be showcased across varying locations, across different timescales. These bite-sized scenes helped to keep the five minute video engaging and hold the attention of those viewing the video.
As the plans for the Derby station and Spondon level crossing were unavailable, DW Studio modelled the entire existing station and future alterations using simple diagrams supplied by Network Rail. This also including the addition of a brand new platform at Derby station. A bespoke user-interface style calendar system was developed, that flexibly accommodated overlapping train notifications and disruption information. The video has been promoted on social media and included on the dedicated Network Rail website. Video views topped a count of 10,000 within just two weeks of being online, along with many positive comments from the general public.
